Susan Boone A.B. Drama Secondary English |
As a native of the metro-Atlanta area, I am proud to be part of Emory's MAT program. My grandmother was a graduate of the program (class of 1960) and I know she would be so proud of me if she were here today. I graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in Drama in 2002 and spent the last few years working as a director and playwright in local children's theatres before making the decision to return to school. I have always had an intense interest in literature and education. I look forward to help my students make meaningful connections between literature and their lives. I have been married for five years to my amazing and supportive husband, Shannon. Two years ago we made a new addition to our family, our daughter, Nancy Ann. In my nonexistent spare time I enjoy reading, writing, watching classic movies, and running. |

Rebecca Jean-Pierre B.A. English / Creative Writing Middle Grades |
I was born in Haiti, but raised in Atlanta, where I volunteered in various tutoring programs and taught Sunday school. I felt called to teach because of my desire to change this world and my love for working with kids. I want to teach in the middle grades because I feel it is at these critical ages that kids need the most support and encouragement. Outside of the classroom I like to paint, sketch, write and listen to music. |

I am a "Carolina Girl" ("they're the best in the world") from Winston-Salem. All of my experiences with teaching in and out of a classroom, including my summer spent empowering middle school students at Breakthrough, led me back to Emory to get my MAT. If I'm not studying, I'm running, biking, swimming (triathaloning), cooking, hiking, or sitting around the kitchen table with family and friends. |
David Harbin B.A. Psychology |
Born and raised in the Atlanta, I returned to Emory's MAT program to give back to the community that has shaped me in such a unique way. After four years at Winthrop University in South Carolina, where I received a degree in Psychology, I decided to pursue a career in education. The school system serves a vital role in the development of our youth. I hope to be a positive influence and provide others with an exceptional experience similar to my own. | |

I am originally from Merritt Island, Florida, and although I miss the beach I am excited to spend another year in Atlanta and Emory. Throughout college I had the amazing opportunity to volunteer and work in various school settings as a teaching assistant and tutor, and also to work as a peer-tutor for Emory students. These experiences solidified my desire to teach and helped me to focus my goals on teaching in the middle grade levels. In addition to my passion for education, I love to read, cook, hike, and kayak. |

After growing up in Salina, Kansas, I attended Washington University in St. Louis for my BA in Biology. I then attended Northwestern University for my MS in Cell Biology. My interest to pursue teaching developed from both great teachers and great teaching experiences. My passion is teaching science in an ever-changing world. |

I graduated from Emory University with a BS in Biology in December 2006 and decided to continue at Emory for the MAT. Having spent much of my college experience TAing and participating in research, I decided that my heart was in education. My desire to pursue teaching comes from my passion for biology and my belief in science literacy for all. After completing the MAT, I plan to return to Boston with my fiancé and teach high school biology. |

I grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta and began my undergraduate career at Emory's Oxford College. I graduated from Emory in 2007. I enrolled in the MAT program to prepare myself to teacher in the urban, multicultural schools that are in desperate need of exceptional teachers. Many of my teachers challenged me and inspired me to pursue a career in teaching. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, tent-camping, softball, badminton, and hanging out with friends. |

My desire to enter the field of education is motivated by a strong desire to empower young people to become catalysts for change in the world. Throughout middle and high school I volunteered as a peer tutor. During college I worked as America Reads tutor, working with primarily ESL students. Yet, it was not until I volunteered as a teacher for my church’s Preschool that I was awakened to my calling to become an educator. Outside of my volunteer work at church I enjoy reading, African dance, spending time with friends, and shopping. |

I am from Phoenix, Arizona and attended Emory College for my undergraduate study. I became interested in teaching as a career after taking several Educational Studies courses and tutoring at schools in Atlanta and back in Phoenix. The summer before my senior year, I worked as an assistant teacher in a class called Math, Money, and Management at the school where I had gone in Phoenix. The experience convinced me that working with Middle Schoolers was the right job for me. |

I was born and raised in Apollo, PA about 30 minutes outside of Pittsburgh. I attended Penn State University and received my BA in History in 2005. I moved to Atlanta with my fiancée in 2006 and am very happy to be here, though it is a little warm in the summer time compared to Pennsylvania. I always loved tutoring in high school and am very much looking forward to the challenge and experience of teaching. I really enjoy spending quality time with my fiancée Erin watching movies or reading, and playing with our dog Milo. |

I have worked for nonprofit organizations in Athens, GA and Atlanta, and resided in an intentional community just outside of Eugene, OR. While I initially planned to devote my career to the nonprofit industry, I was drawn to education when I began tutoring middle school students last fall. Since then, I taught 7th grade at a private school, which revealed to me how much I enjoy working with students in the middle grades, as well as how much improvement I can use as a teacher! I enjoy music, literature, and spending time with my lovely wife. |

Ashley Mosier B.A. History Secondary History |
I am from Richmond, Virginia, and after attending undergrad at the University of Virginia, I decided to move to Atlanta to pursue a career in teaching. I look forward to educating Atlanta’s youth in the subject of history. History has always been a favorite of mine; I even had the opportunity to live abroad in Europe during my childhood. I realized my passion for teaching early on, deciding that there is no better way to contribute to the future of the world than through the art of teaching. Although new to Atlanta, I have enjoyed the experiences that a big city has to offer. I love spending time with my family and friends and discovering all the exciting opportunities Atlanta has to offer. Whenever I have a free weekend, you can find me at the nearest beach. |

I worked for big companies for almost 20 years, most recently at GMAC Insurance where I was President of its eCommerce Division and later its Chief Marketing Officer. Somewhere along the line, however, I lost my passion for business and decided to make a major life change. I feel called to teach and fervently believe that teaching is one of the most important professions in our society. I believe that given a chance, every student can succeed and that we owe our children the highest quality education possible. I love the MAT program at Emory, and am looking forward to getting into the classroom! |
