B.A. English

Secondary English
A native of Silver Spring, Maryland, I came to Atlanta to attend Clark Atlanta University, where I received a BA in English. I view teaching as a noble and character-building profession. With hopes of teaching high school English, I am inspired by the great challenge among educators to promote multicultural, equitable educational experiences for all students. My teaching experience includes tutoring composition students with essay writing and training new employees as a retail manager. Besides my passion for education, I love to read, socialize with friends, and cook.

Secondary English

I am originally from Augusta, Georgia, but moved to Atlanta when I attended Emory for my undergraduate career. I graduated with a B.A. in English and immediately enrolled in the MAT program. While I was in high school, I tutored children in various areas, and I look forward to the opportunity to teach again.

B.A. English with concentration in Fiction Literature

Secondary English
Blowing in from the Windy City, I'm attempting to adjust to life in Altanta with the constant summer heat outside and frigid temperatures inside. Hailing from a city where the land is flat, buses run constantly, and the city never sleeps, I've realized that Atlanta is very different not only geographically but culturally. Despite the differences, I love Emory and the MAT program, and I look forward to working in the schools this fall. In my spare time I love to read, write, sing (albeit badly), watch movies, and hang out with my family.

B.A. English

Secondary English
I have lived all of my life in the great city of Atlanta, where I studied at Emory as an undergraduate. My focus is secondary English and I hope to use my proximity in age to the high school students I will be teaching to bridge the generation gap. This means incorporating into the curriculum literature that is relevant to the lives of the students and teaching in a manner that interests them. My favorite author is Tom Robbins and my favorite book is Still Life with Woodpecker. I look forward to an active exchange of ideas and knowledge in the classroom and to guiding my students in a constructivist environment.

B.A. African American Studies and English
Certificate in African Studies

Secondary English
The ability of literature to give voice to the masses has been my motivating force behind learning and teaching secondary English. I completed my undergraduate education at the University of Georgia primarily under Dr. R. Baxter Miller in African American Studies and English. In addition to foundational texts, multicultural literature is my priority in the classroom.

I am from Tampa, Florida, but am proud to call Atlanta and Emory my home for at least another year. I graduated from Emory with a BA in comparative literature. My teaching experience includes tutoring at schools around Atlanta and woking at summer camps. In my free time, I enjoy playing volleyball (GO EAGLES!), listening to music, laughing at life, and spending time with family and friends. B.B.A, Marketing
A.B.J., Journalism

Middle Grades Language Arts and Social Studies

I worked for 20 years in a variety of fields before finding my way to teaching. I was a journalist, corporate writer/editor, and small business owner before taking time off to care for family and becoming a school volunteer. It was through substitute teaching that I found a new love, that of middle school students whom I find stimulating, exciting, and challenging. I have two daughters who assist me with my MAT work and help me relive childhood. I love playing tennis, hanging out with my children and friends, and learning new things. I am truly at home in the MAT program!

B.S. ChemE

Middle Grades Math/Science
After growing up in Anchorage, I attended Cornell University, where I received my undergraduate degree in chemical engineering. I worked for six years as a chemical engineer but in 2005, after years of quiet consideration, I decided to pursue a teaching career. After learning about Emory's MAT program, I knew that I had found the right program to help me develop the tools needed to teach effectively in today's classrooms. As of now, I am leaning towards teaching 5th grade in Atlanta. If I think hard, I can vaguely recall a time when I was not consumed with training for my new career. During this leisure time that I once afforded myself, I enjoyed exercising outdoors, listening to music, and laughing with friends.

B.S. Accountancy

Middle Grades Math/Social Studies
I am from Atlanta. My interest in mathematics led me to pursue a degree in accountancy. I soon realized that I was not made for the accounting world and have enjoyed working as a campus minister for the past four years. After much thought, I am pursuing a career in teaching. My teaching experience includes various summer camps, Sunday School, and volunteering with World Relief in Clarkston, Georgia. In addition to my love of investing in student lives, I enjoy running, traveling, and trying out new restaurants in the area.

B.A. Mathematics and Economics

Middle Grades Mathematics/Social Studies
I was born and raised in the Bronx and I come from a Jamaican background. My experience with children includes counseling, tutoring, and mentoring. I loved math and history (even though I did not major in history) throughout my years as a public school student. I am excited about teaching in these areas and I hope to be the type of teacher whose students come back to visit years after class has been completed. I am committed to urban education and would like to carry on the legacy of some of my elementary, middle, and high school teachers. I would also like to coach baskeball and be an advisor to a dance team. Some of my other interests lie in music and art.

B.S. Biology

Secondary Science

For most of my life I have wanted to be a teacher, especially in the sciences. But when I obtained my B.S. in biology at Emory University, I was exposed to many pre-med students. For awhile, I too considered becoming a doctor. I went to medical school and completed all basic science and some clinical courses. Eventually I realized that medicine was not my true career path, and I left medical school and refocused my attention on becoming a high school science teacher. I am returning to Emory to obtain an MAT to achieve this goal. I am excited to be here!
