B.A. History

Secondary Social Studies

I am from Calhoun, Georgia, located an hour north of Atlanta. While at UGA, I tutored 4th graders through the Athens Tutorial Program, which made me certain that I wanted to be a teacher. My favorite subject is World History and I have been lucky enough to travel all over, including a month-long trip to Europe on which I visited 11 countries. I hope to teach in the Atlanta area, and when I am not studying or working I love to be at home playing with my dogs.
Hasina Mckend

B.A. International Studies

Secondary Social Studies
I migrated south like many other New Yorkers. Now that I am here, I do not want to leave. One of the things that contributed to my positive experience was 4 years of volunteer work in Atlanta public elementary schools. The city of Atlanta and its public schools have been great to me!
Lindsay Powell

B.A. in History

Secondary Social Studies
My passion for history and my drive to be a positive force in young adults' lives led me to Emory's MAT program. In addition to teaching, I also hope to coach. Soccer has been an important part of my life, as I have played since I was seven years old through college. I have worked at many soccer camps, and for the past two years have served as Head JV and Assistant Varsity coach at Cherokee High School in my hometown of Canton, Georgia.

B.S. Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology

Secondary Science

Though I completed middle and high school in Plano, Texas, I claim equal heritage in Atlanta, where I was born. Looking back, I find my struggle to find a science career rather amusing because teaching was a central theme in my undergraduate experience (including mentoring, residence life, and serving the campus as an EMT). But I'm on board now, and I can't wait to get started!

Now, after much consideration, I am finally pursuing my passion for teaching. My teaching experience includes four years of volunteer inner-city tutoring, research in multicultural education, and SAT tutoring. Besides my love of teaching and spending time with youth, I enjoy swimming, taking long, barefoot walks on sandy beaches, eating new foods, and traveling.

B.A. Psychology

Middle Grades Science / Social Studies
After debating for years on what I wanted to do with my life, I finally made the decision to pursue one of the greatest careers the world could offer: teaching. My prior teaching experience consisted of Sunday School teaching, volunteering at the Misión Católica in Doraville, Georgia, and coaching cheerleading and gymnastics in Suwanee, Georgia. As a teacher, I plan to incorporate many cooperative learning methods in my classroom.
